Abstrakt

This study is the third in a series conducted among students of non-philological specialities of the Belarusian State University in 2022–2023. The subject of the study was the attitude of modern Belarusian youth to the Belarusian language and its place in the lives of young people of the 20s of the 21st century, self-identification of Belarusian students. In connection with the processes that have been taking place in Belarusian society since 2020, the topics of the place of the Belarusian language in it and self-determination of youth seem extremely relevant and promising for development. The purpose of the study was to identify the level of proficiency in the Belarusian language of non-philological students of the BSU, their assessment of both their own knowledge and teaching in secondary educational institutions of Belarus. The emotional component was also important: how does a modern young person relate to everything Belarusian and Belarusian-speaking in his environment, whether he has such an environment at all, whether he applies knowledge of the Belarusian language in practice, whether he considers himself to be part of the Belarusian nation. The study was conducted through anonymous questionnaires. The questionnaire was prepared by the author of this work for a practical purpose (to know the level of the audience with whom it will be necessary to work) and for a scientific purpose (to formalize the results of the research in an article). The results of the analysis of the answers to the questions of the questionnaire showed that it is not necessary to be Belarusian by origin to consider oneself Belarusian. The respondents defined both their own level of proficiency in the Belarusian language and the general level of its teaching as average; noted the insufficient number of Belarusian-speaking environment; revealed a high degree of their own responsibility for the fate of the titular language of the nation.
